We love the early iron. Here’s a second big photo gallery from this past weekend’s 2013 Old Car Festival at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan.
After all these years at the Old Car Festival, many of the cars have become old friends, but there are always some new acquaintances as well. A few of the noteworthy items at this year’s show:
+ Henry Ford’s six-cylinder K model cars of 1908-07 are rare today, with only 21 still known to exist, we’re told, of the approximately 1000 manufactured. But at the Old Car Festival this year, there were two.
+ On the other hand, the number of early Maxwells on hand reminded us how popular the two-cylinder runabouts were back in the day. That’s Ernest Mueller’s 1911 Maxwell AB in the lead photo above.
+ Donald F. Yoder’s gray 1909 Roadster and John Forster’s red 1909 Touring were among those on hand to demonstrate that no, not all Model T Fords were black. At both the beginning and the end of the T’s long production run, colors were offered.
+ Few cars make an impression like the 1917 Pierce-Arrow 48B touring car of Gary Nowakowski. With their massive size, their right-hand drive, and their signature fender-mounted headlamps, these big Pierces stand out wherever they go.
